Office building, Ivan Vazov Str. , Sofia

The core design principle is to preserve the volume of the existing listed heritage building and to construct a separate new wing on its north-western side, facing Ivan Vazov Street. The new wing rises to four storeys and is intended to complete the street frontage of the plot along Ivan Vazov Street while concealing the blank party wall of the adjacent five-storey building. It is connected to the existing building by the smallest possible link, incorporating differential steps.

Particular attention has been given to the study and conservation of the existing building’s facades. An analysis of their deterioration and defects has been carried out. The facades will be fully restored to match the original appearance and detailing. Their compositional qualities will be enhanced through architectural lighting.

The facades of the new wing are conceived in contrast to the ornate original facades of the existing building. The design seeks to convey maximum lightness and transparency through the extensive use of contemporary profiled glass and glazing.
